A big thanks to the whole Chelsea Contractors team (especially Nasser and Rami) who delivered a major project for us at our mid-terrace Victorian period property in Hackney between May 2023-March 2024. This included a full gut and renovation of the existing property, as well as additions including a ground floor side extension and loft extension. A few things to highlight: - The keys to a good relationship and successful outcome with any contractor are trust, care, respect, and good communication. These were the foundation of our relationship with Chelsea Contractors. Nasser and Rami are fundamentally good people who want to do the right thing for those they are work with and for. - Both my wife and I work in real estate (she’s an architect and I’m a commercial developer). Within the single-family residential construction market, non-expert home owners are at-risk of being taken advantage of by residential contractors who know much more about the technical elements of construction and the risks involved in these types of projects. Nasser and the Chelsea team were not phased by having clients who had high expectations and knew what they were doing. They welcomed this as an opportunity to do something great and learn together. This speaks to their honesty, capability, and willingness to do the right thing for their clients (experts and non-experts alike). - Our project included unique elements associated with our overarching sustainability focus. It included significant insulation improvements throughout the property, a timber-only structural strategy (including a new 7 meter long glulam beam installation), reusing existing materials (floorboards, bricks, etc), low VOC finishes, an air-source heat pump, and a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) system. This speaks to their desire to take on new challenges, learn, and work through unanticipated issues that invariably arise when you are doing something new or less common. - In a construction project, there will always be unexpected challenges. What matters is how people act in these situations. The Chelsea Contractors team acted quickly, honestly, and with a solutions-oriented approach to help overcome these situations and deliver for us as clients.
